On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led militants started the "Al-Aqsa Tawafan (Flood)" invasion into Israel along the eastern Gaza-Israeli border. Many Israeli civilians and soldiers, and some other nationalities, were killed, wounded and/or seized. In early September 2024 some 101 of them were still held as hostages by Hamas. This black-field flag was carried by marchers urging the Israeli government to immediately agree to an undefined "hostage release" ceasefire deal that would entice the Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip to release the hostages soon. The current government's position appears to be seeking a military victory over Hamas, rather than accepting a slow, long, step-by-negotiated-step gradual release of hostages in exchange for imprisoned Palestinians. This black-field flag with the slogan "Bring Them Home NOW" was carried by marchers in New York City on June 2, 2024. (Photo credit: Luke Tress).
